NORTH ADAMS -- A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing and mutilating pet rabbits during a failed burglary of a construction business, according to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The suspect, Wayne C. Brackett, of North Adams, was charged late Friday with five counts of animal cruelty, five counts of malicious killing of an animal, one count of breaking and entering at night, and one count of malicious destruction of property, said Sgt. Roy Sutton of the MSPCA law enforcement department.

Brackett remained in police custody and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, according to North Adams Police.

Gruesome surveillance tape of the event, captured at Berkshire County Construction on Tuesday night, showed a man who apparently went into a rage after being unable to break into a truck. The man was shown kicking and dismembering the rabbits, and the surveillance tapes drew wide calls of outrage after the images were widely circulated over the Internet.

The bodies of the rabbits were found strewn about the property including a baby bunny and a severely mutilated rabbit left hanging by a chain after its ears and tail had been cut off.

Sutton said several people stepped forward to identify Brackett as the man in the surveillance tapes. After he was taken into custody by the North Adams Police, officials searched his home and found undislosed evidence linking him to the crime, said Sutton.

"We have thoroughly reviewed surveillance footage of the crime scene, examined the scene and bodies of the animals, secured a necropsy of one of the rabbits, enlisted the assistance of a state police tracking dog, and carefully interviewed numerous witnesses and the suspect," Sutton said.

"Regrettably, the savagery repeatedly inflicted upon the helpless rabbits exceeds any brutality I've seen in quite a while," said Peter Gollub, director of the MSPCA's Law Enforcement department. "These animals posed no threat to the suspect, and in fact some rabbits even curiously approached him. How anyone could systematically and completely ignore the suffering of these unsuspecting creatures dumbfounds me as much as it angers me. I am not surprised to hear that substantial concerns exist about this suspect's past and future encounters with humans and animals alike."

TROY -- The owner of a Vermont tree service company faces a grand larceny charge for charging a Brunswick resident $58,000 for work that was only worth about $8,000, according to the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office.

David K. Barber of Bennington is charged with third-degree grand larceny after a two-month investigation, investigators said.

They said the probe began after they learned Barber may have overcharged the unidentified resident, who deputies described as elderly, for his services. The sheriff's office said Barber charged his victim $58,000 for a job that should have only cost $8,000.

Barber was arraigned by Town Justice Lawrence Kronau and sent to the county jail where he is being held on $15,000 bail.

Citizens Bank - Riverside R.I.

While the Federal Reserve announced new banking regulations last November ending the practice of charging overdraft fees on debit cards that exceed their limit, some banks like Citizens Bank of Rhode Island are slamming customers every chance they get right up til the date in which the new regulations go into effect.

While Bank of America voluntarily instituted the new rules last month...

Fred Sharifipour- Don't Jersey Saratoga!

Congrats to Fred Sharifipour for making it here to TodaysRat. Fred Sharifipour successfully lowered the class bar for Saratoga Springs NY by hosting the sleazy "Girls Gone Wild Tour" at the once great former "Metro" nightclub. The current club, named "Mare" hosted the sleazebag Girls Gone Wild group as part of a "Wildest Bars in America" video shoot, undoubtedly heading for a reality TV show or scummy video to be sold via bawdy TV infomercials.

Sharifipour also owns & operates two Albany clubs called "Tryst" & "Plastic". I think from the names of these 2 clubs that we can see a common marketing theme going here...

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Girls Gone Wild visited downtown Saratoga Springs on Friday night, hosted by MARE on Maple Ave. The event was billed as a wild and crazy party with the best people in Saratoga, but not everyone was excited about the festivities.

News 10 Cameras were not allowed inside MARE, but partygoers saw no problem in having Girls Gone Wild in the city.

"Why isn't it?" one man asked rhetorically. "Think about how much money they're going to bring."

TODAYSRAT : Really? think about it...How much and who cares? At the expense of the Cities reputation?

"It's 2010," said one woman. "It doesn't really matter."

TODAYSRAT: It doesn;t matter why? because Saratoga Already Jumped the shark?

MARE says the group is in town as part of the "Wildest Bars in the US" tour, criss-crossing the country in the hottest cities and getting video of the best clubs. Organizers were quick to point out that this was about the club, not the controversy associated with Girls Gone Wild.

Fred Sharifipour of MARE told News 10 off camera," It's not the girls flashing people from 10 years ago. It's a brand. They're not bringing girls, they're not bringing lewd acts, and I wouldn't stand for it either."

TODAYSRAT: Really? then why is EVERY Girls Gone Wild commercial on TV consist of young girls acting lewdly in public?? I think we know what the brand is

The bar also said Saratoga was lucky to get them to come, but not everyone agreed.

"I think it takes away from the type of community that Saratoga is," Linda Ambrosino said. She owns G. Willikers, a toy store on Broadway. Abrosino said she only found out about the party a few hours before it started. She said she would have opposed it had the known sooner.

"I don't think it's the type of image that we as a business community would like to portray," Ambrosino said.

Some also questioned why the party was in Saratoga.

"I don't personally approve of it," said a female Skidmore freshman, "but people can do whatever they personally want to do.

Organizers said it was only about putting a quiet town on the map and showing people a good time. Other entertainment scheduled to be at MARE in the next couple of months include a member of MTV's Jersey Shore, DJ Scribble, Kevin Rudolf, and Kim Kardashian.

TODAYSTRAT: Saratoga is hardly a "quiet town" Keep your Jersey Shore & Slutty porn star/ reality show socialites like Kim Kardashian back in Vegas where they belong..

Gregory Joseph Leary Child RAPIST SCUM...

scumbags.......

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS/AP) Police have arrested Gregory Joseph Leary on charges that he had sex with a 15-year-old girl. The 15-year-old is herself accused of selling her 7-year-old stepsister to a group of men who gang raped her.

Leary was booked Wednesday night on charges of statutory rape and endangering the welfare of a child. Under New Jersey law, the 15-year-old is too young to consent to sex.

Leary was being held Thursday in jail on a $200,000 cash bond.

Police said they are investigating whether Leary was involved with the rape of the 7-year-old at a party Sunday night in a public housing apartment building.

On Thursday morning, police arrested 27 people on unrelated outstanding warrants during a sweep of Rowan Towers. Capt. Joseph Juniak said the raid was planned before the girl's attack but that it was "somewhat beneficial for investigators" looking into the child rape.

Police believe as many as a dozen people were at the party and said that everyone in the apartment when the rape occurred could be legally culpable.

At the party, the 15-year-old starting having sex with several men for money and then gave the younger girl some cash to let a group of men touch her, police said. It soon escalated to rape and the men threatened to kill the child if she screamed or told anyone, according to police.

Police are reviewing surveillance videos at the complex.

According to police, the teenager and the 7-year-old were outside in the neighborhood Sunday when the older girl ran into two young men she knew who invited her to the party. The 7-year-old wanted to tag along because she was worried about the older girl's safety.

The 7-year-old later put on her clothes and left the apartment; her older sister stayed. Two women found the child crying outside the apartment and walked her home.

The teenager's name was not released because of her age, but the county prosecutor plans to ask the court to try her as an adult. It was not clear who was representing the girl in juvenile court.
