SOUTH CAIRO, N.Y. -- State Police release more details on the arrest of the police chief in the Town of Cairo.
Chief Christopher Sprague, 48, was arrested Thursday for felony charges of first-degree tampering with public records and tampering with physical evidence, as well as fourth-degree tampering with a witness and third-degree falsely reporting an incident, both misdemeanors.
State Police said the charges are a result of Sprague's improper handling of evidence and falsely reporting information to State Police. They said the charges stem from one case, but they are not saying which one since the investigation is ongoing.
Sprague was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
